Everything you need to know about mobile app development
Senior-led app development in 2026 typically costs: pilot/MVP €20,000–€50,000, solid business app (iOS + Android) €40,000–€100,000, complex platform with backend €100,000–€250,000+. Hourly rate in the DACH market: €100–€130/h. Precise estimate via our app cost calculator.
Timeline depends on project tier: pilot/MVP 8–12 weeks, solid business app (iOS + Android, custom backend) 12–20 weeks, complex platform from 20 weeks onward. All figures include design, development, testing, and store launch — with 20–30 % buffer for app store reviews and requirements refinement.
Flutter as a cross-platform framework shares 85–95 % of code between iOS and Android. Two separate native apps typically cost 30–50 % more — for the same core functionality. For most mid-market B2B apps Flutter is performant enough; native development (Swift/Kotlin) only pays off when you need highly platform-specific features or extreme graphics and sensor performance.
For MVPs and lean apps a hosted backend (Supabase, Firebase) is often enough — login, database, and push notifications come out of the box and keep initial costs low. Once you need custom business logic, ERP integration, audit trails, or strict EU data residency requirements, a custom backend on NestJS and PostgreSQL is the right call. Switching later is possible but costs time — make that decision early and deliberately.
GDPR compliance is built in from the start: data encryption, consent management, deletion features, and privacy-by-design. For regulated industries we additionally address NIS2 requirements and the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), which applies to connected products from late 2027. EU and Swiss hosting are available where compliance or data sovereignty requires it.
Ongoing maintenance covers bug fixes, iOS/Android version updates, performance monitoring, and security patches. Budget roughly 15–20 % of initial development costs per year — on a €50,000 app that is approximately €7,500–€10,000 annually. Choose between a maintenance package with defined SLAs or on-demand service billed by effort.
